HOME PAGE
Welcome to the TextTone home page! This web site brings you all
the information you need to know about TextTone - what it is, what
it does, and how to use it. Also included are some frequently asked
questions, support information... and, most important of all, the
opportunity to download the program. You
can also give feedback about this site or the program, if only to
say how great they are...
To find your way around the site, use the links on the navigation
bar at the bottom of your browser window. As always, this site is
best viewed using any fairly current web browser: Netscape, Internet
Explorer, Opera - it doesn't matter which.

Oops, this entire website has been AWOL for a few months... It's
back now, obviously.

Ho-hum. It looks like the stats counter from PageCount/Xoom/NBCi
finally curled up its toes and died. Also in the news, this program
also works with Windows XP!

Well, I dusted off the source files for this site and decided to
give it a 21st century tune-up. As you can see below, the last time
I touched it was in early 1999! So, what you see after the tune-up
now is formatted using CSS.
I feel a sudden empowerment from all this standards compliance - it
feels goooood... Can't you feel it?
Oh, and some new items have also been added to both the FAQ
and Support pages.

Finally, after a couple of months of hard work (part-time,
though) and help from a couple of friends - thanks specifically to Polyhedra
for testing and some small bits of code - a better edition of
version 1.05 of TextTone has arrived. This edition has been
programmed using Delphi to make it smaller and faster. The whole
package, including installation program, is now just a trifling
379KB, compared to the 1,448KB of the original. Downloading it
should be a whole lot faster.
With this re-release, I have taken the opportunity to make a
couple of minor improvements. First of all, both the preview boxes
are now able to be scrolled, and the colour calculation routine is
now perfect (before, the increment in colour from the last-but-one
to the last character was not quite correct). However, for
simplicity's sake, I have decided not to increment the version
number and stick at v1.05. If you've already downloaded the first
edition, you may want to stop by the Download
page and get the new edition to gain these improvements.

Just a few bits of site maintenance here and there for now.
Updates to the Download section and tidying up of certain things. On
another note, some work is currently being done to re-author
TextTone in Delphi. What's the point of this? For one thing, it'll
result in a smaller download, because no run-time DLLs will be
needed. More news on this as-and-when it happens.
5th February 1999
Well, there's not much news at the moment - all there is to say
is that this is a new site dedicated to a new program. At the
moment, only a couple of the featured download locations are active
- as the rest have yet to have be uploaded to those servers. Anyway,
please be sure to take a look at the About
page to see what TextTone does, then maybe wander over to the Download
page and get yourself a copy!
